About the Zaramo

The Zaramo are a Bantu ethnic group native to the coastal region of Tanzania, particularly in the Dar es Salaam and Pwani regions.

History & Origins

The Zaramo have historically been traders and farmers along the coast. They were heavily influenced by Swahili culture and Islam through centuries of coastal trade. Many Zaramo now live in Dar es Salaam, the largest city in Tanzania.
